Covid – Isolation Guidelines

With the new variant Omicron and the start of the the winter session after holiday gatherings and travel, we have put together information for you to use as a guideline.

What is isolation and when to do it?

Isolation is the period of time in which individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19, or have symptoms of COVID-19, are required to stay away from others to limit further spread.

It’s CRITICAL to ISOLATE when:

  • You have tested positive for COVID-19 from a test taken at a lab or at a provincial testing site (a PCR test or a rapid molecular test), or from a rapid antigen test (RAT).
  • You have COVID-19 symptoms, regardless of whether you have been exposed through travel or contact with a case. If you do not go for testing, you should assume you have COVID-19 and follow the below guidance for cases.

Isolation periods for fully vaccinated vs not fully vaccinated:

There are different isolation periods for people who have been vaccinated and people who have not been vaccinated.

  • People who are fully vaccinated and do not have symptoms need to isolate for five days from the date of their positive test.  Panthers will require a minimum of seven days from the date of a positive test.
  • People who are fully vaccinated and have symptoms need to isolate for five days from the day their symptoms started or the date of the test, whichever is later. They must also continue to isolate until they no longer have a fever and their other symptoms have been improving over the past 24 hours.  Panthers will require a minimum of seven days from the date symptoms started/test and must be symptom free to return.
  • People who are not fully vaccinated need to isolate for 10 days from the date of their positive test. They must also continue to isolate until they no longer have a fever and their other symptoms have been improving over the past 24 hours.  Panthers will require a minimum of 14 days from the date symptoms started/test and must be symptom free to return.

Lingering symptoms such as cough or loss of taste or smell can persist beyond the isolation period, and if present, are not reasons for continuing isolation.

Fully vaccinated people who have finished their isolation must wear a medical grade mask in public settings for five days and avoid any non-essential visits to high-risk settings or non-essential contact with individuals at high risk for severe disease.  Panthers requires mask use for all aged 5yo and up.

It is important to continue following the public health fundamentals even after you have recovered.

All cases should notify their close contacts, which includes your household members. Please review manitoba.ca/covid19/testing/monitoring/index.html for information on how to notify your close contacts.

Treatment for COVID-19 is now available for people at higher risk of severe disease. Please visit manitoba.ca/covid19/treatment/index.html for more information and to find out if you are eligible or call Health Links – Info Santé at 204-788-8200 or (toll-free) at 1-888-315-9257.

Isolating and international travel:

If you have travelled internationally, you must isolate for a minimum of 10 days, regardless of vaccination status. Individuals who travelled internationally, must follow Federal testing and isolation/self-isolation (quarantine) requirements. Panthers requires 14 days for extra safety.

Covid – Vaccine Requirement Guidelines for 12yo to 17 yo

effective Dec 5th

Per Public Health Orders any staff, participant or spectator over the age of 18yo must provide proof of vaccination to enter the facility.  Also children between 12yo – 17yo will now be required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative test result as per below guidelines from Sport Manitoba and the MGA:

  • The only acceptable test type is a Rapid Antigen Test from a pharmacist 72 hours prior to entering the sport facility.
  • If the 72 hours lapses while the athlete/spectator is in the building they will be able to finish up the session but require another test before returning.
  • Provincial testing sites cannot be used, it must be obtained from a private pharmacy.
  • Costs with range from $40-100 depending on the pharmacy.
  • There is no list of pharmacies offering the services, it is recommended to just call to your local pharmacies.
  • Negative tests or QR code proof should be presented to the facility staff.
  • For those with double vaccination status they should have a QR code to present.
  • For those with single vaccination status they should have a printout or a screenshot from shared health.
  • Proof of vaccination or negative test must be presented with proof of identification. School issued ID is considered acceptable or other regular forms of ID (passport/birth certificate/etc.).
  • It is likely 2nd doses will eventually be required however no timelines from public health yet.
  • It is unknown if mandates will come for 5-11yo  at this time.

To make things easier for families Panthers has developed a door data sheet that will provide staff with verification of children who have sent in their QR or proof of vaccination to the office.  This will stream line the entry process and avoid us denying a child entry to class should they forget their documentation.  Members may email a copy of their child’s documents to panthers@panthersgymnastics.ca or bring a copy to give to the office if they so choose.

The current policies include:

  • all coaches, staff and members 5yo and up will be required to wear masks – children under 5yo recommended to wear a mask if possible
  • children are required to bring a water bottle as the fountains are shut off
  • daily online self screening tool is to be completed every day before attending class and children who have symptoms or are unwell should remain home

Thank you for your continued support and understanding and we look forward to a great season for gymnastics for all.

COVID-19 Daily Screening Form
